Brought in my grandfather's Omega Seamaster, which hadn't been opened in over twenty years. The watchmaker went through the condition before doing anything and sent me a written note that explained what he found. The timing result after service was well within range. Took about three weeks in total, which matched what I was told upfront.

I had a battery replaced and the case checked. The whole thing was done the next day, and the note about the crown being slightly worn was useful — I had noticed it catching sometimes but assumed it was normal. Small detail, but I appreciated it being mentioned.

The vintage restoration on my 1962 Longines took just under two months, including parts sourcing from Japan. The dial and case were left exactly as they were — no polishing, which was specifically what I wanted. The photographic record was thorough and genuinely useful. My only note: the communication during the waiting period could have been slightly more regular, though I was never left without information when I asked.

I collect mid-century Japanese automatics and have brought three pieces here over the past year. The pricing is transparent and hasn't varied from what was quoted. The turnaround on the last full service was 19 days. Good consistent work.

My mother's Tissot had sat unworn for about a decade. I didn't know if it was worth servicing. James was direct about the condition and gave me an honest view of the likely cost before anything was agreed. It's now running well and the case looks exactly as it did when it arrived — no one has tried to improve anything that didn't need improving.

Dropped in two watches for battery replacement — a daily Casio and a slightly nicer Seiko. Both done the same day. The Seiko needed a new gasket as well; this was mentioned before the cost changed. Straightforward, no surprises.

Three Pieces, Three Different Situations
The Situation
1955 Longines 30L
A collector inherited a late 1950s Longines from a relative. The watch had not been worn in years and was running approximately twelve minutes fast per day. The owner wanted it restored to working condition without altering the dial or case in any way.
The Work
Full disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, and reassembly with correct lubricants. The mainspring showed some set and was replaced with a period-equivalent sourced from a Swiss supplier. Regulation across five positions over eight days. No case work requested.
The Result
Final rate: +4 seconds per day at crown-up. Total duration: seven weeks including parts sourcing. A photographic record and written condition report were provided at collection. The owner subsequently brought a second piece.
"The documentation was the part I didn't expect to care about, and then found genuinely useful."
The Situation
Modern Seiko Automatic, Daily Wear
An owner brought a Seiko SKX that had been worn daily for nine years without being serviced. It was still running, but losing about forty seconds per day and the crown felt stiffer than usual.
The Work
Full mechanical service. On disassembly, the crown tube gasket was found to be in poor condition — the crown stiffness was explained. All consumables replaced, movement cleaned and re-lubricated. Timing observation across four positions for five days.
The Result
Final rate: -2 seconds per day. Crown action normal. Completed in eighteen days. The owner noted they had planned to replace the watch before being told it was worth servicing.
"It runs better now than it did when I bought it, as far as I can tell."
The Situation
Quartz Dress Watch, Battery Unknown
A visitor from Europe brought a modern Swiss quartz she wore regularly. The watch had stopped and the previous battery date was unknown. She was in Chiang Mai for three days.
The Work
Battery replacement with new gasket. Case-back resealed and pressure-tested. The movement was found to be in clean condition; no additional work was needed or suggested. Completed the same afternoon.
The Result
Watch returned by end of day. The owner collected it before her onward travel. No complications, no upsell — a battery replacement and nothing else.
"Done the same day, as promised. That was all I needed."
